Main Focus

As a trained molecular biologist, I am primarily interested in elucidating the mechanisms -the why and the how- that underlie most biological phenomena. I employed C. elegans as a model system to examine muscle degeneration in ageing, DMD, and spaceflight throughout my PhD and first postdoc.

Looking at C. elegans as an organism, I was amazed by the various population-level behaviours that are exhibited by this well-studied (yet complex) worm! My research here focuses on the phenomenon of wurmuration: the collective gliding movement of worms across a food lawn as a travelling wave. I am trying to find the fundamental components or factors that are essential for wurmuration. I am also keen on finding the purpose and ecological significance of this phenomenon.
